Skyway Cement donated the slag cement to Youngstown State University for their concrete canoe competition. The slag cement was used to innovate a slag cement-hydrated lime concrete mix with no Portland Cement which the competition judges raved about the sustainable mix. They finished second at the national competition and received first overall for the product.

U.S. 2022 slag cement shipments were slightly below 2021 at 4.1 million short tons. Because of the performance characteristics, the demand for slag cement will continue to grow. To keep up with the demand new plants and imports will continue to grow as well.
